Christmas Special 2015

Merry Christmas, gang!

And we're sorry. We're so, SO sorry. But it had to be done. With Star Wars and Christmas practicallly coinciding this year, we decided that we'd do a commentary of 1978's Star Wars Holiday Special.

This is the only audio that survived the event.

Happy Holidays, people.

Episode 246 - Horror Beyond Imaginiation

It's nearly Episode VII time (2 sleeps in the UK!) so it's high time that we looked at the last of the original Star Wars trilogy movies, Return of the Jedi!

Join Glenn, Paula and Sam as they look into the history of the movie, at some of the trivia surrounding it, and share their personal memories of the movie.

They also look forward to the next installment of the Star Wars saga, as well as give their first thoughts on some of the new trailers hitting our screens such as TMNT, Independence Day, and appropriately enough, Star Trek Beyond!

Episode 245 - Empire State of Mind

Glenn's back, and in the mood to talk some Star Wars!

This time, the gamg takes a look at the difficult second movie, The Empire Strikes Back, it's making, inception, the trivia surrounding the movie, and the reasons why it's generally considered to be the best of the bunch.

After the break, it's all about the prequels (no Rebels), and it would seem that life reflects art, as a Rebel Alliance who don't like them, strive to take on the evil Empire that does...

Episode 243 - I Have a Bad Feeling About This

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Yes folks, there's not long to go until Episode VII of the Star Wars saga is upon us, so here at BTTE Towers we thought it'd be a nice idea to go back, way back, to where it all began.

So let's all have a good look at Episode IV, shall we? To when Luke Skywalker was just a farm boy flying through Beggar's Canyon, Ben Kenobi was a crazy old wizard, Darth Vader had killed Anakin Skywalker, and R2 and 3PO were the narrators.

May the Force be with you. Always.

Solidarité avec les paris.

Episode 242 - The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Yes folks, Christmas time is upon us again, and to start off this year's festive season, Jenny from World of Crap is with us to remind us that it's not always fun and frolics at Christmastime, sometimes you have to contend with things like the ALF Christmas, and as always, Bungle will have a strop in the Rainbow house! (Also, Paula finds out that George is a boy!)

There's also all the news that you'd want from your favourite franchises, and a question regarding everyone's favourite Masked Crusaders, so please, pull up a seat, and listen closely. Because next week, you may feel a certain stirring in the Force...

Episode 241 - Fisher Price Forever

Sam's back from his travels, and he has stories! Let's be honest, it's not ever day you get to be in New York (unless you live there), so Sam has stories to tell, and tell 'em he does.

After that, we have a spotlight from Paula, on those toy touchstones that we all have, so expect Sticklebricks, Fisher Price treasures and lots and lots of Lego. Lots.

Episode 240 - TURTLE POWER!

It's a totally radical episode this week duderinos, as Glenn, Paula and Becca take a look at the most gnarly cartoon to span both the 80's and 90's, and actually run for 10 whole seasons, as well as produce enough merchandise to match the GDP of a major First World country - we're talking about the completely crucial and radical Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, dude (Hero Turtles in the UK - what a bummer, thanks Thatcher)

There's also some news, but not a lot, as it's coming up to Christmas, and most toy companies already have their Santa Lists drawn up by this time of year. Totally not cool, dudes.

So lay back, relax and chill out party dudes, and listen to some totally radical TURTLE POWER!

Episode 239 - ULLAH!

There's a slight invasion on the podcast this week, as Becca takes us back to 1976, to before Jeff Wayne had composed the theme for TV-am, and David Essex was still considered something of a cool guy, and Richard Burton was (probably) still married to Liz Taylor, as we take a look at Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of the War of the Worlds (to give it it's full title).

There's also the rest of the main news headlines from NYCC to look at, as well as a couple of listener questions that have been posed to us (more of those too, please - we can't get enough of them!), making this a packed show!

There was more, but I can see a green flash coming from Mars from my window, what are the chances of that happening, eh? A million to one?

We're all back for RORC (boo), and this week it's Andrew's turn to spotlight something so near and dear to his heart, that he didn't even have to do any research - it is of course Action Force! We learn from it's very beginnings, through to the point where it morphed into GI Joe and beyooond!

There's also LOTS of exciting news this week, as NYCC begins in earnest, and the last big reveals of the year take place. You don't want to miss this!

Episode 237 - Oooooh, nasty.

Welcome, Watchers of Illusion, to the Castle of Confusion, or BTTE Towers as we all know it. It's a bit of a special one this week, as we're joined by an actual, proper DUNGEONEER from one of our favourite TV programmes from the 80's (and indeed, EVER), KNIGHTMARE.

His name his Giles, and he's lovely. He tells us all about his experiences on the programme, traversing the various dungeons of the castle (and by dungeons, we mean a blue screen room in Anglia studios), and what it was like meeting Treguard the Dungeon Master, amongst other great stories!

There's also a smidgin of news to go through this week, and a question from one of our lovely listeners, so join us won't you, and remember, it's only a game...isn't it?

It's all about the smackdown this week, as Paula, Sam and Glenn take your suggestions (and some of their own) as to which 80s icons would beat each other sensless in fantasy battles! And as this was so much fun, this is going to be a regular item, so we'd love some more suggestions from you guys please!

There's also all the news that we can find from our favourite franchises, including some news on Transformers 4, a man who thinks he can get money from Hasbro for "inventing" GI Joe, and of course, more Ghostbusters news!

Also, get well soon Becca! Here's hoping you'll be back next week!

Episode 235 - All Dogs Go To Bluth

It's Sam's turn to spotlight this week, and he's chosen a widely regarded classic in the 1989 Don Buth animated movie, All Dogs Go To Heaven! What will the team think of this movie now they've seen it again after all these years? Will it be the classic they remember it to be, or will it again lose out to The Little Mermaid?

There's also a good amount of news this week from MOTU, Ghostbusters, Transformers and everything else that we like to look at of a Friday evening!

This week sees the return from Jenny from World of Crap, and this time she'll be looking at the things you did to look like a double hard bastard when you were a kid, things like dying your hair, getting tattoos, and taking on the whole of the school year by yourself. That might have just been me, then.

There's also all of this week's news, and we reminisce about the toys we really wantd but never got, and the toys we kinda wished we hadn't gotten in the first place.

Episode 216

Jenny's back on the podcast, so expect chaos! This time she's bringing the might of the Gladiators with her! Yes Gladiators, a nineties show that had the neon beating heart of the 1980s - in fact, it was World of Sport wrestling in all but name. We also discuss where the Gladiators are now, potential Gladiators for the future, and even the Eurovision Song Contest. Do you have the power of a Gladiator?

Micromaster Base Skyhopper: Dread Tidings

It's a helicopter that's flown by a tiny plane that turns into a base for a tiny plane, it's...Skyhopper!

Episode 215

This week, Glenn, Sam and Jii explore the world of Adrian Mole, and resist the urge to write bad teenage poetry, worry about the current Tory government (still) and celebrate the upcoming nuptuals of Prince Charles and Lady Di (and with good reason too). They also bring you all up to date with all the MOTU Classics news from NY Toy Fair 2015 (including the very exciting 200X subscription), the latest DVD rumblings from the Gobots, and also tell you about the time when Harrison Ford proved to the world that he was a complete badass. Also, Hasbro seem to be re-releasing the G1 Dinobots. Eek!

We'll be talking about the various Transformers reveals at NY Toy Fair this year, and asking if this has been enough to bring Gruffy (as someone who had left Transformer collecting behind) back into the fold of big Transforming robbits?

Episode 214 - The NY Toy Fair 2015 One

No spotlight this week guys, it's all about the news! Last week NY Toy Fair 2015 happened, and there was a whole TON of news that's come forth, including exciting Transformers developments, interesting TMNT happenings, cool 80's Funko things, and ABSOLUTELY NO GI JOE NEWS WHATSOEVER. There was hardly even any Star Wars news, but what there was, we'll tell you about, unlike the GI Joe News OF WHICH THERE WAS NONE.

This week's episode is all about your guilty pleasures from childhood, the shows which you love, but don't always admit to loving. So let Jii, Sam and Glenn take you on a trip down the lesser known memory lane, the one with the path least trodden, as we look at the Jems, the Rainbow Brites and yes, the My Little Ponies! There's also a whole boatload of Transformers news to be getting on with, and I DO mean a boatload!

Episode 212

No news this week guys, mainly because Jenny from World of Crap's back, and this time, it's serious. Like, Argos and Index catalogue serious. But wait, there's more! Not only do Jenny, Sam and Glenn talk about the catalogues, but also 80's party food, things you'd find in a doctor's waiting room, and the TV Times quiz questions! They also find time to answer some listener questions as well, you lucky people. Well, I say lucky...

Episode 211

This week sees the nostalgia TARDIS (with full crew of Glenn, Phil, Sam and Jii) land in the peaceful serenity of the Evergreen Forest. That is, until Bert Raccoon wakes up. The merry hell breaks out. That must mean the this week's spotlight regards the brilliant Canadian 80's cartoon, The Raccoons! There's also news of a Mattel kind, with new PR management possibly already making it's prescence felt, and new heads for your Skeletor figure, as well as all the Turtles, Thundercats (including some weird ideas for the original series) and Star Wars news! Oh, and if you ever wondered if there were any series that have let the guys down when they went back to watch them, well, here's the place to be!

When the Music Stops: The A-Team - Follow That Chicken

In this week's readalong adventure, it's up to everyone's favourite soldiers of fortune to clear the name of a young man who has been framed for a crime he didn't commit...so basically, business as usual, really. Just as an aside, the "Rainbow" calling card at the start of the audio may whisk you back to being 5 years old again in less than a nanosecond. You have been warned.

It's a long and winding road, that may be leading to a new movie? Possibly? We'll have to see. So pull up a pew, and join us as we get all misty eyed about He-Man and the gang, and also speculate on the future of one of our favourite franchises. There's also news! Not much news as it's just after Christmas, and the news hounds all seem to be on a diet. But news, nonetheless, of Masters, Turtles and even a bit of interesting Spider-Man news. Or should I say...Supaidaman news?
